Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Oncologist to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a faculty member in our Surgical Oncology Division, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care, teaching and mentoring surgical residents and fellows, and contributing to cutting-edge research in the field of surgical oncology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Responsibilities: Provide high-quality patient care in the surgical oncology department, with a focus on treating benign and malignant soft tissue, breast, endocrine, and GI diseases.
  • Teaching and Mentoring: Teach and mentor surgical residents and fellows in the field of surgical oncology, with an emphasis on general surgical oncology.
  • Research: Participate in clinical or basic science research relevant to the expanding field of surgical oncology, with a focus on cancer disparities, translational oncology, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or cancer genomics.
  • Service: Serve on university, health system, and departmental committees as requested by leadership, and assist with the recruitment, training, and placement of residents and fellows.
Requirements
  • Board certification or eligibility in general surgery.
  • Advanced training fellowship in surgical oncology or breast surgery.
  • Commitment to outcomes, clinical and/or basic science research.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Record of external funding or proposal submissions to obtain funding.
