Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Cytotechnologist to join our team at Women & Infants Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing microscopic examinations of ThinPrep specimens, both gynecologic and non-gynecologic, and reviewing relevant patient clinical data applicable to the specimen.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cytopathology and be able to evaluate diagnostic possibilities and render cytopathologic diagnoses. They will also be responsible for conferring with pathologists and/or manager on difficult cases, submitting cases demonstrating abnormalities and all non-gynecologic cases to pathologist for final diagnosis, and documenting diagnostic evaluation of each case read and revising case charges as necessary.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform microscopic examinations of ThinPrep specimens
  • Review relevant patient clinical data
  • Evaluate diagnostic possibilities and render cytopathologic diagnoses
  • Confer with pathologists and/or manager on difficult cases
  • Submit cases demonstrating abnormalities and all non-gynecologic cases to pathologist for final diagnosis
  • Document diagnostic evaluation of each case read and revise case charges as necessary
  • Review and electronically sign every final report prior to distribution
  • Utilize computer as pertinent to the cytopathology laboratory
  • Effectively utilize quality control procedures as defined by hospital policy
  • Collaborate with pathologists, physicians, and other hospital staff in providing effective health care for the patient
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree required; masters preferred
  • Completion of a formal education program in Cytotechnology necessary
  • ASCP certification as a Cytotechnologist required
  • Must be skilled in the use of various lab equipment
  • Manual dexterity required in processing specimens, handling equipment, etc.
  • Proficiency in the English language required
