Job Title: Systems/Network Analyst 1

The University of New Mexico is seeking a highly skilled Systems/Network Analyst 1 to join our team at the Earth Data Analysis Center (EDAC). As a key member of our IT infrastructure team, you will be responsible for providing professional-level support in routine to moderately complex areas such as system and/or network, hardware and software tools, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of these systems and/or networks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install and configure new servers and hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. to support GIS and IT infrastructure in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Perform daily system monitoring to verify the integrity and availability of all computing resources; review system and application logs to identify any potential intrusions and security threats; verify completion of scheduled jobs such as backups; and apply OS patches and upgrades.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensure all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, and test the restoration process to ensure backups are successful.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures, including issues such as a degraded array; coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
  • Perform ongoing maintenance such as hardware upgrades and resource optimization as required; configure CPU, GPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Contribute to and maintain existing technical documentation; manage user accounts upon request; perform file archival and purge services upon request.
  • Research and recommend innovative and automated approaches for system administration tasks; identify approaches that leverage EDAC's computing resources and provide economical solutions.
  • Evaluate the current cyberinfrastructure capacity, gather requirements, and collect information to make recommendations regarding network, security, computing resources, server systems, applications, and databases; participate in capacity planning, security measures, data safety and integrity initiatives, disaster recovery, and upgrade planning.
  • Contribute input on the design and cost estimates for IT infrastructure and services; coordinate tasks for the installation/maintenance of networks or systems for small-scale and medium-scale projects.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prefer 1 to 2 years of experience, in addition to the minimum qualifications.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows systems that support GIS and IT infrastructure, research data, and research projects.
  • Experience with maintaining a virtual environment as well as maintaining backup systems.
  • Experience with maintaining an Active Directory environment, performing security updates, maintaining e-mail services, maintaining database clusters, and maintaining multiple services such as license, FTP, and print services.
