Associate Director of Research

The Vera Institute of Justice is seeking a highly skilled Associate Director of Research to lead research efforts for the Opening Doors Initiative, a national effort to expand access to housing for individuals with conviction histories.
This is a senior-level position that requires a strong background in research, policy, and advocacy. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leading research teams, developing and implementing research strategies, and communicating complex research findings to diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities- Lead research efforts for the Opening Doors Initiative, including developing research strategies, conducting research, and analyzing data.
- Supervise and support a team of researchers, including providing guidance on research design, data collection, and analysis.
- Develop and implement research products, including reports, briefs, and presentations, to support the initiative's goals.
- Collaborate with the initiative director and other stakeholders to develop and implement research-based policy recommendations.
- Represent the initiative's research efforts to external stakeholders, including policymakers, advocates, and community leaders.
- Advanced graduate training, such as a Ph.D. or equivalent, in a relevant field, such as sociology, criminology, or public policy.
- At least 9 years of experience in research, policy, and advocacy, including experience leading research teams and developing research strategies.
- Strong background in research design, data collection, and analysis, including experience with statistical software and data visualization tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including experience presenting complex research findings to diverse audiences.
- Commitment to racial equity and social justice.
- Experience working with advocacy and communications professionals to develop and implement research-based policy recommendations.
- Experience conducting community-based research, research with individuals who have experienced trauma, and/or research with individuals who have been detained or incarcerated.
Vera Institute of Justice offers a competitive salary range of $129,000 - $134,000, depending on experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
