Animal Control Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Animal Control Officer to join our team at Lexington-Fayette Animal Care and Control (LFACC). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for enforcing laws and ordinances related to animal welfare, providing education and outreach to the community, and ensuring the humane treatment of animals.
Key Responsibilities- Enforce current laws and ordinances related to animal welfare
- Provide education and outreach to the community on responsible pet ownership and animal welfare
- Respond to calls for service to assist citizens with animal-related concerns
- Prioritize compassionate and humane treatment of animals
- Patrol the community and respond to calls from dispatch
- Interface with the public to inform, educate, and resolve animal-related issues
- Impound, vaccinate, and house animals per protocol
- Notify owners of impounded animals
- Interpret situations and provide basic care for animals as needed
- Respond positively to structured hierarchy and constructive feedback
- Maintain exemplary driving record
- Operate dispatch as needed
- Assist Cruelty Investigator as necessary
- Interface with other agencies and departments
- Compile evidence and appear in court as necessary
- Process incoming animals per protocol
- Complete paperwork as necessary
- Complete and maintain computerized documentation of animals
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must submit to a background and motor vehicle check
- Must successfully complete a 60-day recruit onboarding and training period
