Job Summary

This position plays a vital role in the healthcare team as a pharmacotherapy expert, providing high-quality patient care in the area of neurocritical care. The successful candidate will be responsible for participating in the optimal selection of drug therapy, designing regimens to maximize therapeutic benefit and minimize toxicity, and conducting educational activities to enhance patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Critically evaluate disease state management and adjust or recommend adjustments to therapy to improve patient medication regimens, ensuring appropriate and cost-effective medication therapy.
  2. Provide detailed drug information and education to the healthcare team, patients, and community, serving as a system resource and expert in neurocritical care.
  3. Review and evaluate medication orders for appropriateness and completeness, adhering to directives from the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee/Clinical Consensus Group.
  4. Apply principles of continuous quality improvement, incorporating quality improvement principles into activities and facility/system-based projects, and participating in drug use evaluations and facility-level medication safety oversight.
  5. Participate in local and system-based committees, effectively communicating with stakeholders, and developing innovative drug-related patient care practices in neurocritical care.
Requirements

A Doctorate in Pharmacy degree and completion of a PGY1 residency program are required. Board certification through the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (e.g., BCPS, BCOP) is also necessary. Additional qualifications include pharmacist licensure in the state of practice and a degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy.

Incumbents in Arizona are required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire. A current and unrestricted Pharmacist license is required at the time of hire for BSS applicants. Good organizational, problem-solving, and computer skills are essential, as well as good written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, and other contacts.
