Staff Accountant Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant to join our dynamic team in the construction industry. This is a permanent, full-time position where you will play a pivotal role in managing and analyzing financial information to ensure the profitability and financial health of our business.

Responsibilities:
  • Performing month-end accounting activities such as reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Coordinating with the finance team to complete annual audits.
  • Analyzing financial reports and seeking ways to reduce costs.
  • Working closely with the Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP) departments to ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial data.
  • Preparing Profit and Loss (P&L) statements and forecasting reports.
  • Overseeing general ledger entries and ensuring they are accurate and complete.
  • Using MS Excel and other accounting software to maintain records and generate reports.
  • Assisting in budget preparation and expense management activities for assigned accounts.
  • Assisting in reviewing and updating the company's financial policies and procedures.
  • Performing other accounting duties and supporting junior staff as required.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within the construction industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly MS Excel (V-lookups, pivot tables) and MS Dynamics.
  • Experience with Bistrack or equivalent accounting software.
  • In-depth knowledge of Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and General Ledger (GL).
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail with an ability to spot numerical errors.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • CPA certification will be considered an asset.
