About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at WSP. As a key member of our Property and Buildings Team, you will be responsible for providing technical assistance and guidance on mechanical systems design, development, and construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise on mechanical systems design, development, and construction projects.
  • Conduct research, design, and concept development for mechanical systems, including automatic temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems.
  • Develop construction drawings and specifications, and review contractor cost estimates.
  • Perform professional mechanical engineering work, including research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, building, infrastructure, usage, and mechanical systems.
  • Develop and implement future-ready solutions with mechanical engineering design standards.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on various engineering, design, and construction issues.
  • Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Prepare data and visualizations, including tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and illustrations.
  • Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations.
  • Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Remain current in latest mechanical engineering techniques and practices.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in mechanical design and engineering.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Proficient knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, and processes.
  • Experience with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
  • Working knowledge of relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles.
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects.
  • Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities, structures, and systems.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
