Role Summary:

The Senior EHS Specialist is responsible for providing expert guidance in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) through established protocols and acquired expertise. In this role, you will oversee the coordination of EHS initiatives and programs. As a Senior EHS Specialist, your focus will be on the implementation, execution, and maintenance of the environmental, health, and safety systems across our facilities. You will work closely with the Corporate EHS team, Plant Management, Production, Maintenance, and Engineering departments on various projects and initiatives. This position reports directly to the Director of Environmental Health and Safety for Residential operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct Environmental, Health, and Safety activities at the site.
  • Lead on-site EHS support to enhance the plant's EHS management system through proactive collaboration with EHS program champions.
  • Assist the Director of EHS - Residential in developing and executing strategic initiatives.
  • Create and implement injury prevention strategies, ensuring widespread adoption across the facility.
  • Support environmental compliance efforts and monitor adherence to permit requirements.
  • Identify and develop training programs to meet plant needs, track training progress, and onboard employees with environmental responsibilities.
  • Conduct audits to assess personnel and workspace improvements, developing corrective actions to address any gaps.
  • Collaborate with Plant Management, Production, Maintenance, and Engineering on facility deficiencies identified through audits and inspections.
  • Facilitate periodic self-assessments of the site's EHS management system in alignment with Corporate EHS policies.
  • Ensure that Corporate EHS Application practices are integrated into operations, promoting appropriate behaviors.
  • Assist with new employee orientation and ensure completion of EHS training for all staff.
  • Utilize data to recommend changes to training programs, SOPs, JSAs, and tools aimed at accident prevention and employee education.
  • Work alongside Human Resources and Corporate EHS on Workers Compensation cases, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Support sustainability assessments within the plant.
  • Lead investigations into incidents, develop corrective actions, and communicate lessons learned.
  • Ensure findings from accident investigations, safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments are communicated to leadership and relevant parties.
  • Assist plant leadership in aligning sustainability efforts with capital and engineering projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) are advantageous.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in managing workplace environmental, health, and safety programs.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, policies, programs, PPE, environmental policies (EPA), safety engineering, and accident/injury investigation procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with proficiency in computer applications (Google Suite).
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities, flexibility, and the capacity to maintain confidentiality.
  • A collaborative team player with outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel as required.
