About the Role
The Senior EHS Specialist provides technical support for Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) using established procedures and gained knowledge. In this capacity, you will be in charge of coordinating EHS operations and programs. As a Senior EHS Specialist, you will help implement, execute, and maintain the plants' environmental, health, and safety systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide Environmental, Health, and Safety activities onsite.
- Drive and guide on-site EHS support that lead the plant's EHS management system through proactive engagement with the sites EHS program champions.
- Assist Director of EHS - Residential with the creation and execution of strategic initiatives.
- Develop injury prevention strategy and ensure facility wide adoption.
- Support environmental compliance efforts and monitor permit requirements.
- Identify training programs to meet plant needs, tracking training progress, and on-boarding plant employees with environmental responsibilities.
- Conduct audits to monitor personnel and workspace improvements and develop corrective actions to close gaps.
- Coordinate with Plant Manager, Production, Maintenance, and Engineering Departments on facility deficiencies through site audits and inspections.
- Facilitates with the sites EHS program champions to support the location's periodic environmental, health and safety management system self-assessments against the Corporate EHS policies.
- Ensure that Corporate EHS Application practices are embedded in the operation and these management practices are driving the appropriate behavior.
- Assist with the new employee orientation process and assure completion of EHS training for all employees.
- Use data to make recommendations on changes to training programs, SOPs, JSAs, and tools to prevent accidents, and educate and protect employees.
- Work with Human Resources and Corporate EHS on Workers Compensation cases, ensuring they are in line with company policy.
- Support sustainability operations assessments within the plant.
- Lead incident investigations, development of corrective actions, and communicate lessons learned.
- Ensure the findings of accident investigations, safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments are brought to the attention of leadership and others who may be affected.
- Support plant leadership on capital project planning to align sustainability efforts with capital and engineering projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical, Environmental Engineering or related field preferred.
- Certified Safety Professional, (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist, (CIH) or Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) a plus.
- Minimum 3+ years of work experience in workplace environmental, health and safety program management.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, policies, programs, PPE, environmental policies (EPA), safety engineering, accident/injury investigation procedures and operating rules, etc.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills along with computer skills. (Google Suite)
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work flexible hours and business travel when needed
