Vision Impaired Teacher

The Alabama Department of Education is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Professional to join our team as a Vision Impaired Teacher. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of visually impaired students and their families.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) to ensure visually impaired students receive a free and appropriate public education.
- Provide remedial and tutorial instruction in academic, behavioral, and functional skills areas to visually impaired students.
- Collaborate with general and special educators to develop and implement effective instructional strategies and materials.
- Administer standardized tests and assessments to determine eligibility for special education services.
- Participate in IEP and eligibility committees to ensure legally sound conclusions are reached.
- Stay up-to-date on current eligibility criteria for visually impaired students under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
- Complete all required paperwork and documentation within established timelines.
- Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination of services.
- Must hold appropriate Alabama Special Education Certification in the area of Vision Impaired.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong relationships with colleagues, parents, and students.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Work in a fast-paced educational environment with frequent interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Occasional travel to meetings and professional development opportunities may be required.
