Job Title: Delta Family Center Assistant Teacher

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Delta Family Center Assistant Teacher. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing support to our Head Start center, classrooms, and transportation services.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist full-day BELA classrooms with daily activities, including food service and planning/preparation for full-day BELA teachers and co-teachers.
  • Uphold responsibility as a mandatory reporter for Delta County School District.
  • Provide support to the Head Start center, classrooms, and transportation services, as coordinated by the Delta Family Center Executive Director.
  • Assist in completing required monthly paperwork, including records of meals and attendance, inventory forms, volunteer/in-kind forms, child development plans, and other internal and external reports/documents.
  • Ensure the welfare and safety of children during classroom hours, bus, and field trips.
  • Assist in preparing, setting up, serving, and cleaning up of family-style meals and snacks.
  • Model developmentally appropriate behavior and activities in dealing with children, families, and staff.
  • Interact with parents or guardians during pick-up and delivery of children.
  • Assist in ensuring children are dropped off to only authorized contacts on file with BELA.
  • Assist in managing emergency situations, such as a parent or known guardian not being present during delivery and/or pick-up of child.
  • Understand and adhere to health, safety, food handling, and sanitation requirements before, during, and after meal service.
  • Prepare classroom for meal time by ensuring tables are properly sanitized and dishes and tableware are available to children.
  • Prepare, serve, and clean up after family-style meals and snacks. Store food and supplies properly.
  • Take temperature of food before being served to children and calibrate food thermometers daily.
  • Ability to calm others under stressful or confrontational conditions.
  • Comply with standard operating procedures established by RMSER.
  • Assist center staff in completing hearing and vision checks for students as needed.
  • Participate in all required trainings for all components, including Nutrition, Education, and Transportation (where applicable).
  • Provide break coverage to educational and other center staff as needed and to maintain ratio compliance in classrooms.
Requirements:
  • Must adhere to Head Start Family Advocate requirements as stated in attached documentation.
  • Required to meet Highly Qualified status (High School Diploma/GED and Associate degree or 48 hours of college credit or have passed the WorkKeys test).
  • Enrollment in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
  • Must have previous working knowledge of computers, internet, and web browsers, word processing, and electronic timesheets using an internet-based system.
  • English proficiency (reading, writing, speaking) is required for all positions. Some areas may require bilingual (English and Spanish) based upon parent/student populations.
  • Ability to follow detailed schedules, programs, and policies.
  • Certified CPR and First Aid.
  • Ability to understand and strictly adhere to the Delta Family Center confidentiality policy.
  • Ability to express patience and understanding with all children at all times.
  • Ability to read and understand written materials.
  • Ability to work under the supervision of Backpack/BELA/Family Literacy coordinators.
  • Ability to be flexible with schedules and job assignment.
  • Willingness to attend conferences and trainings.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds or more.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Able to multitask.
  • Work ethic that exemplifies enthusiasm, teamwork, and self-motivation.
  • Fingerprint and background clearance.
Working Conditions:

This position may be required to work in a kitchen or food prep setting, where floors are wet. They may also be required to wash dishes that require swift arm movements and standing for longer periods of time.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
