Job Title: Host/Hostess

The Host/Hostess is responsible for supporting the seamless running of the reception department by providing the highest standards of customer care. This role involves assisting in running the day-to-day tasks of a high-volume and energetic contemporary restaurant.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Check in customers, matching them with bookings and accepting chance customers if tables are available.
  • Supply customers with requested information regarding restaurant facilities, customer telephones, and taxis.
  • Show customers to their tables and pass responsibility to floor staff.
  • Pass messages to diners.
  • Work with restaurant staff to create a positive dining experience for guests.
  • Greet customers and answer all questions.
  • Alert team members when tables need attention if they are not present and assist them in helping with their tables.
  • Have knowledge of the menu and be able to make suggestions.
  • Ensure tables are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems.
  • Collect payments from tables.
  • Check the reservations system for any VIPs or special requirements for the day.
  • Perform relay duties in the restaurant.
  • Accept table changes from supervisors and managers.
  • Process new bookings, amend, and cancel bookings as required.
  • Ensure the reception area is always kept clean and tidy.
  • Communicate all problems and ideas for improvement to management.
  • Communicate and work together with coworkers as a team.
  • Arrive at work for scheduled shifts and be punctual, following the company's absence and lateness procedure if unable to do so.
  • Follow management's instructions and suggestions.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as required by the management team.
  • Clean tables and remove dishes after the customer leaves or as needed.
  • Carry loads of soiled dirty dishes to the dishwasher to be cleaned.
  • Ensure availability of clean dishes, flatware, glasses, straws, napkins, and other dining materials.
  • Reset tables when the customer leaves for the next customer party.
  • Remain focused and on-task.
  • Sweep and mop floors, even if items are broken or spilled.
