Surgical Precertification Coordinator Job Description

At Stamford Health, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Precertification Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our revenue cycle department, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our patients receive the necessary insurance precertification and authorization for their procedures, surgeries, and diagnostic services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits through various reports, third-party payer websites, and customer service telephone contacts.
  • Obtain and enter accurate insurance, demographic, and eligibility information into our practice management system.
  • Communicate with patients to identify missing information and make corrections as needed.
  • Initiate and complete the precertification/authorization process with insurance companies on behalf of our patients.
  • Coordinate with insurance companies, physicians, and patients to provide necessary documentation for precertification/authorization.
  • Track and follow up on open precertification/authorization requests in a timely manner.
  • Provide high-level customer service to internal and external customers, including patients and staff.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma required; Associate's degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in insurance verification, pre-certification/pre-authorization, medical billing, or related field in a healthcare environment.
  • Competency with computers, electronic medical records, and software such as MS Office.
  • Knowledge of medical office operations, coding, and billing, as well as third-party insurance processes.
  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills, with ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
