Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the calibration of dosimetry equipment and radiation machinery to ensure accurate measurements.
- Conduct beam data acquisition for treatment planning purposes.
- Prepare and enhance data for treatment planning systems.
- Develop and refine dosimetry protocols and software applications.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations regarding radiation safety.
- Participate in the formulation of performance improvement initiatives and policies.
- Assist in the acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment.
- Perform treatment planning, dosimetry calculations, and reviews.
- Provide expert consultation to radiation oncology staff regarding patient care and treatment.
- Verify the functionality of treatment planning systems regularly.
- Collaborate with IT departments to manage planning system software.
- Support the planning and shielding calculations for new facilities.
- Interpret regulatory changes and integrate them into departmental operations.
- Conduct dosimetry checks following any source changes.
- Assist in selecting and acquiring sources for permanent implant techniques.
- Engage in clinical education and training for medical physics and therapy staff.
Qualifications:
- M.S. or PhD in Medical Physics or a closely related discipline is required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience post-CAMPEP-accredited residency.
- Certification in Radiation Oncology Physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or an equivalent body is preferred.
- Experience with High Dose Rate (HDR) and Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) is advantageous.
- Familiarity with patient record and verification database applications is desirable.
- Candidates must be eligible for board certification and achieve this within three years of hire.
- Must maintain relevant state licensing and registration as required for the role.
