Job Title: Proton Physicist

Orlando Health Cancer Institute is seeking a highly skilled Proton Physicist to join our team of medical professionals. As a top cancer care provider in Florida, we offer a comprehensive, multidisciplinary cancer program with six treatment sites and over 10 practice locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise proton center dosimetrists and technical staff.
  • Develop and administer a comprehensive Quality Assurance (QA) program for proton therapy equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Radiation Safety Officer and Radiation Oncology Administration to develop and administer a comprehensive radiation safety program.
  • Monitor the performance of therapy staff and treatment areas, providing necessary equipment and support for accurate patient treatment delivery.
  • Assist in developing and implementing proton-specific policies and procedures.
  • Develop performance, acceptance testing, and commissioning specifications for newly acquired equipment.
  • Calculate and certify shielding for new or modified radiation areas.
  • Collaborate with radiation oncologists and physics staff on individual patient treatment plans.
  • Develop and review new or non-standard treatment techniques.
  • Provide statistical analysis for treatment efficacy evaluation.
  • Review and approve charts and tables for treatment units.
  • Evaluate and approve new or improved treatment aids and instruments.
  • Research and evaluate new developments in radiation oncology to assess the need for new equipment.
  • Implement process changes to increase workflow efficiency.
  • Acquire and review proton dosimetry data for accurate patient treatment calculation.
  • Verify accuracy of computer calculations and approve for clinical use.
  • Review and approve new and special treatment procedures.
  • Calculate and review benchmark calculations and studies for clinical trials and protocols.
  • Create a library of disease-specific cases with proton vs. IMRT plan comparisons.
  • Assist in providing software and hardware vendors with quality performance issues and desired features.
  • Perform and evaluate regular calibrations and routine QA checks on radiation producing equipment.
  • Review results of test procedures for computer software updates.
  • Supervise weekly chart review for patients under treatment.
  • Participate in weekly chart review as assigned.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive process for patient-specific QA.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in medical physics, physics, biophysics, radiological physics, medical health physics, or equivalent discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Current license in Therapeutic Radiological Physics (State of Florida Department of Health).
  • Certification in Therapeutic Radiologic Physics from The American Board of Radiology, The American Board of Medical Physics, or the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine.
  • Minimum of 2 years direct clinical experience in therapeutic radiologic physics.
