Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Camp Counselor Seasonal to join our team at the City of Lake Wales. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing camp site and activities for seasonal camp programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and organize all aspects of daily camp operation for assigned site
  • Assist in the training, supervision, and evaluation of camp counselors and volunteers
  • Assign and direct work for staff ensuring daily curriculum is followed
  • Prepare and coordinate daily curriculum including crafts, sports, games, drama, nature awareness, field trips, speakers, and other socialization activities according to lesson plans
  • Implement age and developmentally appropriate activities
  • Conduct programs in an orderly fashion maintaining discipline and good conduct from participants
  • Inspect facilities and equipment, area, and issue reports concerning maintenance needs
  • Greet participants and visitors and distribute accurate information regarding trips and activities
  • Maintain open and positive communication with staff, campers, parents, and school sites
  • Responsible for making sure all camper accounts are paid in full prior to attending camp
  • Maintain accurate administrative records including but not limited to, staff hours, daily attendance, participant emergency information, accident/injury reports, behavior reports, newsletters, permission slips, and medication logs
  • Maintain inventory of materials/supplies/equipment and submit supply needs in advance
  • Enforce rules and regulations to ensure safety of participants
  • Maintain neatness and cleanliness of activity areas
  • Administer basic first aid as needed
  • Perform related duties as required

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One year recreation experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Two years' experience working in recreation, camp, or child care setting
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain within 1 month of hire; CPR/AED/First Aid certifications
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License
