Job Summary

The Surgical Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for scheduling patient surgical procedures at various entities, including hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. This role requires strong communication and organizational skills to ensure accurate and timely scheduling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and verify surgical orders from providers
  • Complete necessary paperwork for hospitals and surgical centers
  • Coordinate schedules with hospital, physicians, and other groups
  • Inform patients of surgery dates and times
Essential Functions
  1. Advise patients on pre- and post-operative instructions, including food, fluid, and medication intake and restrictions
  2. Schedule and obtain pre-op evaluations and surgical clearance documentation from requested physicians or surgeons
  3. Enter surgery appointments and ensure accurate insurance information
  4. Document phone calls to patients and scan scheduling documentation
  5. Perform precertification and verification of surgical benefits with insurance companies
  6. Maintain and monitor surgical block time to optimize utilization
Requirements
  • Previous experience in healthcare revenue cycle preferred
  • Good listening and communication skills with professional and respectful telephone etiquette
  • Able to operate basic office equipment and multitask
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate precision and flexibility
