Position Overview:


Texas Oncology is seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Technician to become part of our dynamic team. This role is integral to the Pharmacy Department and involves supporting various pharmacy operations.

The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Compounding and admixing medication orders under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

- Ensuring completeness of all orders and verifying patient information along with proper physician authorization.

- Checking for insurance approval prior to medication preparation.


- Accurately preparing medications as per departmental guidelines while adhering to OSHA standards.

- Calculating correct dosage volumes and maintaining the indigent patient drug program as necessary.

- Conducting weekly counts of controlled substances and maintaining accurate records.

- Keeping current drug information and MSDS sheets, and ensuring proper disposal of materials used in mixing IV medications.

- Daily cleaning of the hood as per established policies and procedures, and logging all medications used.

- Monthly checks for medication expiration dates and maintaining accurate temperature logs.

- Managing inventory control of medications, including ordering, receiving, and shelving supplies.

- Preparing labels and handling billing processes.

- Providing guidance to junior Pharmacy Technician staff as needed.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Pharmacy Technician position will possess the following qualifications:

- Level 1: High School diploma or equivalent, with entry-level to three years of experience in a pharmacy setting.

- Level 2: In addition to Level 1 requirements, a minimum of three to five years of pharmacy experience with IV skills is required. IV certification is preferred.

- Senior Level: In addition to Level 1 and 2 requirements, a minimum of five to seven years of pharmacy experience with IV skills is necessary. An oncology background or extensive IV preparation experience is preferred, along with completion of an ASCP accredited program or community college-based program.
