Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Care Practitioner II to join our team at Fairfield Hospital. As a key member of our respiratory care team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and support to our patients and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide respiratory care to patients through assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation.
  • Perform all respiratory care procedures within the scope of your license.
  • Monitor patient responses to therapies and make recommendations for changes or modifications as needed.
  • Serve as a preceptor to new team members and students.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, analyze assessment data, create plans of care, implement treatments, and evaluate treatment effectiveness.
  • Perform treatments and therapies according to physician orders, explaining therapy and therapeutic goals to patients and modifying treatment procedures based on patient response.
  • Maintain proper documentation, patient medical charting, and recordkeeping, as well as established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Provide patient education on cardiopulmonary diseases/disorders and associated treatment options, instructing patients and their caregivers in incentive spirometer, metered dose inhaler (MDI) administration, oxygen therapy, home aerosol therapy, or ventilator care, if applicable.
  • Set up and maintain respiratory therapy equipment and supplies, responding to cardio-pulmonary resuscitations and actively participating as indicated by clinical circumstances.
Requirements
  • Current Respiratory Care License in the state of employment (required)
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialed (required)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (preferred)
  • BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (required)
  • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association (required)
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association (required)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AAP/AWHONN (preferred), required for Roper St Francis Healthcare
  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) (preferred)
  • Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) (preferred)
  • ACCS (Adult Critical Care Specialist) - NBRC (preferred)
  • Valid driver's license (required for Home Care/DME)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved school for Respiratory Care (required)
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field (preferred)
  • Two years of experience as a Respiratory Care Professional (required)
  • EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred)
Work Environment

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads. You may be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse, as well as high noise levels and bright lights. You will be required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.

Physical Requirements

This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to perform shift work, and the ability to maneuver the weight of patients. You will be required to hear alarms/telephone/audio recordings, reach above shoulder level, and perform repetitive arm/hand movements. You will also be required to have finger dexterity, color vision, and acuity - far and near.
