Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at the Virginia Department of Health. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will provide direct patient care in clinics and patient homes, following specific protocol and under the supervision of a RN or Physician.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer oral, IM, subcutaneous medications and immunizations, if a medications course has been completed and performed under supervision of a RN or Physician.
  • Interview patients for medical histories, counsel patients, teach, instruct, obtain lab specimens and perform routine laboratory work, take vital signs, refer abnormal findings to physician, prepare patients for physical examinations and assist physician during examination.
  • Licensure as Practical Nurse required by state code.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of techniques and practices of the nursing profession, of public health practices, of quality assurance concepts, of teaching principles, of principles of decision making and problem solving techniques, of accurate record keeping and quality control, of socio-economic conditions relating to personal needs of clients.
  • Skills in performing technical procedures, in communication orally and written, in interacting with clients and the general public.
  • Ability to document clearly and accurately utilizing the health department's accepted form of documentation, to establish and maintain working relationships with individuals and families to function as a team member.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current CPR certification ·. Experience in phlebotomy and laboratory procedures.
