Responsibilities
The Health Unit Coordinator/Nursing Assistant (HUC NA) has a dual focus, combining the Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) and Nursing Assistant (NA) roles. As a member of the interdisciplinary patient care team, the HUC NA supports patients with activities of daily living and performs patient care skills as delegated by the licensed nurse within the Ohio Board of Nursing Scope of Practice. The HUC NA also collaborates with unit leadership in coordinating the day-to-day activities of the patient care unit, including processing patient records and ongoing communication with nursing staff, physicians, and interdepartmental personnel. The HUC NA serves as a resource for physicians and other members of the healthcare team for the electronic medical record. The HUC NA is responsible for maintaining and demonstrating knowledge, skill, and ability of the delegated tasks and supports department operational needs. The HUC NA reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
Qualifications
Applicants must have successful completion of KH Health Coordinator training upon hire into the role, successful completion of KH Nursing Assistant Orientation upon hire into the role, certification in CPR/BLS, and one of the following: six months' experience as a nursing assistant in a hospital or long-term care facility, completion of Nursing Assistant course in the last six months, nursing student or listed as pre-nursing as shown on transcripts, or current employee with Kettering Health. Preferred qualifications include reading, writing, and basic math skills, effective interpersonal and communication skills, appropriate telephone etiquette, basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills, customer service skills, ability to multitask, prioritize, and function in a high-stress environment, ability to problem solve, and ability to comprehend and complete delegated tasks.
