Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Recovery Peer Specialist to join our team at First Step. As a Recovery Peer Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing peer support services to individuals with substance abuse and/or co-occurring mental health disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide person-centered care and recovery-oriented approaches to support individuals in achieving their recovery goals.
  • Assess needs and connect individuals with community services to remove personal and environmental obstacles to recovery.
  • Conduct in-person groups for support and aftercare needs.
  • Provide motivation and support to encourage participation in treatment services.
  • Link individuals to the recovery community through knowledge and contacts within the recovery community.
  • Engage members and establish trusting relationships to support individual goals.
  • Serve as a personal guide and mentor in managing personal and family recovery.
  • Document timely and thoroughly treatment services, assessments, interventions, and aftercare plans.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Certified Recovery Peer Specialist.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Past or present consumer of mental health or substance abuse services with a history of managing one's own illness for the past 2+ years.
  • Awareness of the importance of recovery in living with a mental illness or addictions problem.
  • Experience working directly with people in a service-oriented field is beneficial.
  • Active membership in a consumer advocacy or self-help group.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Familiarity with the Sarasota County community.
  • Ability to interact with various types of people.
