Design a Revolutionary Mobile POS Experience

At Shift4, we're redefining commerce by simplifying complex payments ecosystems. As the Principal Product Designer for our best-in-class Mobile POS, you'll create an exceptional experience for restaurant servers and waitstaff.

Reporting directly to the VP of Product Design, you'll lead the end-to-end design strategy to empower servers to efficiently manage orders, payments, and customer interactions. From onboarding to daily usage, your design will ensure our Mobile POS product becomes an indispensable tool in a fast-paced restaurant environment.

This role is ideal for a design leader passionate about shaping user experiences that streamline tasks, improve efficiency, and ultimately enhance the customer dining experience. You'll lead the creation of intuitive, server-first solutions that simplify the complexity of restaurant operations, ensuring our Mobile POS is the top choice for restaurant teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead the design of an intuitive mobile POS interface tailored specifically to the needs of restaurant servers and waitstaff.
  • Embed deep empathy for restaurant staff into the design process, using the Jobs-to-Be-Done (JTBD) framework to ensure the product meets their core needs.
  • Work closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to translate user insights and business goals into best-in-class design solutions.
  • Oversee the complete user journey for servers, from clock-in to clock-out, ensuring that the design simplifies everything from opening tasks to closing out the day.
  • Identify opportunities to innovate, such as improving workflows, optimizing multi-tasking, and enabling seamless order and payment handling in a high-pressure environment.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years in UI/UX design with a strong focus on mobile applications and the restaurant service industry.
  • Restaurant industry experience should include designing solutions that streamline server workflows, improve operational efficiency, and support payment processing and customer interactions.
  • Expertise in Figma and other industry-leading design tools, with a deep understanding of creating user-centric mobile experiences.
  • Advanced skills in UX methodologies such as innovation, ideation, storytelling, and prototyping.
  • Proven ability to lead complex design projects, balancing multiple priorities, while inspiring and mentoring peers.
