Operating Room Registered Nurse Specialist

Mount Sinai Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Operating Room Registered Nurse to join our team. As a key member of our perioperative services team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of our surgical services.
Responsibilities:- Prepare the OR suite for new admissions and ensure a safe and efficient environment for patients and staff.
- Evaluate and assess patient surgical status, documenting all findings and interventions.
- Assist anesthesia in maintaining intake and output, checking availability of blood products, and ensuring accuracy in blood administration.
- Monitor and intervene appropriately with patients receiving conscious sedation, applying safety positioning devices as needed.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of OR equipment, performing new procedures, skills, and routines in specialty areas.
- Perform initial vital signs and admission history, introducing patients and families to the OR team and assessing chief complaints.
- Obtain and document accurate systems assessments at the beginning of each procedure, responding to diagnostic data and initiating appropriate action or intervention.
- Assess patient education needs on admission and psychosocial needs specific to patients' age, growth, and development.
- Initiate plan of care within eight hours of admission, establishing priorities for patient care based on patient needs.
- Perform pre-operative and post-operative care and instruction for each assigned surgical patient during shift.
- Collect and label specimens per policy when ordered by physician, performing bedside glucose monitoring and ostomy care as needed.
- Insert intermittent or indwelling urinary catheters using aseptic technique, administering oxygen therapy according to physician order.
- Transfer patients in/out of the GI station in an efficient manner, obtaining complete and correct sets of physician orders and completing documentation of transfer summaries.
- Current FL RN License
- BLS required
- CNOR preferred
- Minimum of one year of experience scrubbing and circulating through various service lines, with CNOR certification highly beneficial.
