About the Role:

The Registered Nurse (RN) at Gundersen Health System plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care in a dynamic and collaborative environment. As a Medical Surgical RN, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population, from infants to geriatric patients, and provide care that is centered around their unique needs and preferences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess patients' physiological, emotional, sociocultural, spiritual, and financial status, and develop a patient-centered plan of care to promote health and wellness.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to provide competent and innovative patient care and education.
  • Document nursing assessment, planning, interventions, implementation, and patient/family response to ensure accurate and comprehensive patient records.
  • Evaluate patients' progress toward achieving goals and revise the plan of care as needed in collaboration with patients and families.
  • Delegate, supervise, and evaluate the effectiveness of tasks performed by Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) or Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) who have the knowledge and skill to perform the task.
  • Participate in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research activities to enhance patient care and outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Associate degree in Nursing (REQUIRED); Bachelor's degree in Nursing (DESIRED).
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensed minimally in the state of practice; some positions may require additional state RN licenses.
  • Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Work Environment:

The Medical Surgical RN will work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of patient acuity, requiring strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The RN will be expected to prioritize responsibilities efficiently and maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Physical Demands:

The RN will be required to sit occasionally, walk/stand frequently, and perform repetitive actions, including pinch forces, grip forces, and fine manipulation. The RN will also be required to lift, carry, and push/pull objects within the specified weight range.
