Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Medical Surgical department at Gundersen Health System is responsible for providing high-quality patient care to individuals, families, and populations in a collaborative environment. The RN utilizes evidence-based practice to manage acute illness, chronic disease, disability, and end-of-life care, while aligning practice with organizational policies, professional nursing standards, and regulatory practice acts.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients' physiological, emotional, sociocultural, spiritual, and financial status, considering lifestyle preferences and learning needs.
- Develop patient-centered plans of care to promote health and optimize wellness, collaborating with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Provide competent and innovative patient care and education based on patient complexity, acuity, and nursing judgment, within a culture of caring and safety.
- Document nursing assessment, planning, interventions, implementation, and patient/family response.
- Evaluate patient progress toward achieving goals and revise plans of care in collaboration with patients/families as needed.
- Delegate, supervise, and evaluate the effectiveness of tasks performed by LPNs or UAPs, considering scope of practice, training, competence, population served, experience, policies, and procedures.
- Lead, direct, and influence others through participation in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, research, shared governance, department-based projects, and continual learning.
- Accept accountability, elicit feedback, clarify issues and concerns, and work toward resolving problems or conflicts.
- Practice in accordance with Gundersen Health System's mission, values, and strategic plan.
- Demonstrate effective organizational skills, prioritizing responsibilities efficiently in a rapidly changing work environment.

Education and Learning
REQUIRED: Associate degree in Nursing.
DESIRED: Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
Work Experience
REQUIRED: No experience required.
DESIRED: 6 months or greater previous experience in nursing.
License and Certifications
REQUIRED: Registered Nurse (RN) licensed minimally in the state of practice, some positions may require additional state RN licenses. Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands-on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
