Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Therapist to join our team at Little City Foundation. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing recreation and fitness programs for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in recreation therapy and experience working with children with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities. They will be able to assess the specific needs, abilities, and interests of each child and develop a person-centered recreation and fitness plan.

The Recreation Therapist will work closely with the residential management team to develop and implement youth summer camp activities, afterschool, and weekend recreational and leisure programming. They will also be responsible for providing fitness techniques and recreational training to agency residential staff.

The successful candidate will be a certified Recreation Therapist Specialist (CTRS) and have a Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy. They will also have a valid driver's license and auto insurance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement recreation and fitness programs for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Assess the specific needs, abilities, and interests of each child and develop a person-centered recreation and fitness plan
  • Work closely with the residential management team to develop and implement youth summer camp activities, afterschool, and weekend recreational and leisure programming
  • Provide fitness techniques and recreational training to agency residential staff
  • Provide supervision of all areas of the Center for Recreation and gymnasium while youth are present
  • Assist youth involved with the agency's Special Olympics programming by developing athletes to participate in a variety of sports
  • Timely and ongoing preparation of individual and summary reports that document ongoing participation and progress of individuals engaged in the fitness programs

Requirements:

  • CTRS certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy
  • Valid driver's license and auto insurance
  • One year of experience working with children with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities

Working Conditions:

The Recreation Therapist will work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse group of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They will be required to lift up to 50 pounds and have the ability to perform CPR and CPI. The physical demands of the job include sitting, walking, and standing for prolonged periods, as well as frequent grasping, lifting, holding, or feeling objects.
