Job Summary

Bethesda Health is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Nurse Educator to join our team. As a Nurse Educator, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing a comprehensive orientation program for all employees, with a focus on regulatory issues surrounding long-term care and Bethesda values and mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a Corporate-approved orientation program for all employees, emphasizing regulatory issues, Bethesda values, and mission.
  • Conduct General Orientation using Corporate guidelines, incorporating relevant OSHA and Federal and State regulations.
  • Coordinate and monitor orientation activities throughout the program.
  • Provide input into the evaluation of the orientee and recommend release from or extension of orientation based on evaluation of learning needs.
  • Assist with mentor programs and promote a culture of staff development.
  • Develop lesson plans and conduct in-service programs, including mandatory in-services and programs identified by needs assessment of the staff.
  • Teach staff basic computer skills related to their job duties and instruct staff on accessing and using online education programs.
  • Work closely with the Director of Nursing (DON) on promoting teamwork and quality care issues.
  • Provide input into the appraisal process of staff, particularly during orientation.
  • Act as a resource for Managers relative to the department's orientation, in-service, and staff development needs.
  • Conduct the state-approved Nurse Assistant Training Program or CMT program, as requested.
  • Develop and implement an ongoing infection prevention and control program to prevent, recognize, and control the onset and spread of infections.
  • Establish facility-wide systems for the prevention, identification, reporting, investigation, and control of infections and communicable diseases.
  • Develop and implement written policies and procedures in accordance with current standards of practice and recognized guidelines for infection prevention and control.
  • Oversee the facility's antibiotic stewardship program and resident care activities that increase the risk of infection.
  • Lead the facility's Infection and Prevention Control Committee and develop action plans to address opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate on the facility's QAA Committee and implement an annual infection control risk assessment process.
  • Review and/or revise the facility's infection prevention and control program, its standards, policies, and procedures annually and as needed.
  • Provide education to staff, residents, and families, as appropriate, and ensure public health is notified of reportable diseases.
  • Collaborate with other departments in fulfilling requirements related to occupational health and safety.
  • Maintain documentation of infection prevention and control program activities and inform the DON of individual needs for Staff Development functions.
  • Assist the DON in the assessment of needs for resident care equipment during budget preparation and promote compliance with the organization's compliance program.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement (QAPI) activities and prepare concise and timely QAPI reports, as required.
  • Develop educational programs based on needs identified through QAPI activities and attend various meetings and provide reports as requested.
  • Attend local professional educator's meetings and Bethesda monthly meetings, set individual goals, and review with the DON.
  • Serve as a role model to the staff and actively pursue education related to job.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • BSN or related baccalaureate preparation in education preferred.
  • Current RN license in the state where you will be working.
  • CPR/AED certification required or willing to obtain within six months of employment.
  • Certified as a CPR instructor is highly desirable.
  • Certified as an Instructor for the Missouri Nurse Assistant Training program and CMT instructor certification preferred.
  • Completed specialized training in infection prevention and control through accredited continuing education.
  • Minimum of five years of recent clinical nursing experience required.
  • Educational and supervisory/management experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in long-term care required.
  • Ability to manage time and organize daily schedule to meet productivity standards.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and other programs such as EMR.
  • Possesses integrity, initiative, and loyalty.
  • Must possess good communication skills and demonstrates ability to teach adults.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects using proper lifting techniques and with assistance as necessary.
  • Ability to transfer and move residents who vary in ability to assist weighing 200+lbs using proper lifting techniques and with assistance as necessary.
  • Ability to push and pull equipment weighing in excess of 40lbs using proper techniques and with assistance as necessary.
  • Manual dexterity, coordination, and skillful use of hands when working with residents and equipment.
  • Ability to perform necessary documentation.
  • Visual acuity.
  • Must be able to manage a diversity of activities.
  • Good organization, critical thinking, problem-solving, and mentoring skills.
  • High degree of ability in using tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
  • Must be able to concentrate with frequent interruptions and multiple distractions.
  • A preference for understanding and responding to the physical and psychosocial needs of the geriatric population required.
