Position Overview:
This role represents a foundational level in the animal control field, necessitating a solid understanding of animal behavior and relevant regulations. Under general supervision, the specialist will address community inquiries and patrol designated areas to enforce local laws concerning the management and licensing of canines.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct regular patrols within assigned regions, capturing and impounding dogs that are not securely confined or under the owner's reasonable control.
2. Perform periodic inspections to verify valid dog licenses, issuing citations and necessary licenses to individuals found in violation of applicable laws regarding dog control and registration.
Community Engagement:
Respond to reports of stray animals, aggressive dogs, and injured or sick pets. Take appropriate actions to either impound, rescue, or humanely euthanize animals based on the circumstances. Set live traps for problematic dogs and investigate claims of livestock attacks by canines.
Documentation and Reporting:
Complete necessary forms and prepare detailed reports of actions taken for documentation, legal compliance, and statistical purposes, as dictated by policy. Appear in court as required to provide testimony in cases related to animal control.
Operational Duties:
As assigned, manage the reception of animals, perform dispatch duties, utilize computer systems for record searches, and address public inquiries regarding legal requirements, dog control, and effective pet care methods. Maintain cleanliness and routine care of equipment and vehicles used in the performance of duties, and assist in the upkeep of kennels as time permits.
Qualifications:

A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required. Candidates must obtain Certified Euthanasia Technician (CET) certification, ASP certification, and Notary Public license within six months of employment, maintaining all certifications and licenses thereafter.
