The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a pivotal role within the executive leadership team, reporting directly to the President. This position is instrumental in shaping and executing the financial strategy and ambitious growth objectives of ABFE. The CFO is responsible for ensuring the utmost stewardship of the organization's financial resources, leading investment initiatives, and managing the Finance Department, including direct oversight of the Controller and finance staff.

Key Responsibilities:


Strategic Leadership


• Collaborate with the CEO and President to define and implement the organizational strategy and growth initiatives.


• Act as a vital member of the executive leadership team, serving as a liaison for the Board's Investment, Finance, and Audit Committees.


• Drive data analysis and information dissemination across the organization to support informed decision-making and strategic planning.


• Stay informed on legal, accounting, tax, and public policy issues relevant to foundations and philanthropy.


• Cultivate and lead a dynamic finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of professional development.


• Collaborate with development and donor services teams to evaluate proposed gifts in alignment with organizational policies.


• Work in partnership with the executive team to integrate ABFE's mission and values into strategic initiatives.


• Provide leadership and support to the Board of Governors to enhance governance practices.


• Ensure exceptional service delivery to ABFE's donors.


• Offer independent insights on business decisions to ensure alignment with financial strategies.


• Partner with leadership to embed diversity, equity, and inclusion principles throughout the organization.


Investment Oversight


• Administer ABFE's investment program, collaborating with investment managers to execute strategies approved by the Board.


• Serve as the primary contact for the Foundation's Investment Committee.


• Ensure compliance and performance of investment managers with established guidelines.


• Facilitate the establishment of new investment accounts, including reviewing policies and building relationships with advisors.


• Consult with legal advisors on investment-related matters.


• Ensure that all investments align with donor intentions and fund agreements.


• Communicate the high standards of stewardship and performance of ABFE's investment program to stakeholders.


Financial Management


• Act as a liaison for the Finance and Audit Committees.


• Lead a skilled finance and accounting team, promoting a collaborative environment.


• Develop and implement policies and practices for financial operations.


• Oversee the preparation of financial reports and tax documentation.


• Manage the annual operating budget and long-term financial forecasts.


• Supervise the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors.


• Streamline finance and accounting functions through technology enhancements.


• Maintain strong relationships with external partners, including auditors and financial advisors.


• Ensure compliance with all legal and ethical standards in financial operations.


Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will possess a blend of innovative thinking, financial expertise, and a commitment to inclusivity. Key qualifications include:


• A minimum of ten years of senior management experience in finance or accounting, preferably in a non-profit context.
