About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Optometry Support Specialist to join our team in Sherwood, Oregon. This is a float position, which means you will have the opportunity to work with various teams and locations within Kaiser Permanente.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist doctors of optometry in providing high-quality patient care, ensuring accurate records and efficient workflow.
  • Accurately record patients' medical and visual history, review clinical information, and prepare necessary documents for doctors.
  • Perform preliminary testing, including auto-refractor, non-contact tonometer, and visual acuity tests.
  • Process phone calls and manage patient communication effectively, addressing concerns and resolving issues promptly.
  • Maintain diagnostic and therapeutic instruments, ensure they are clean and accurate, and arrange for repairs or recalibration as needed.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A minimum of two years of experience functioning in an optometric or ophthalmic practice under the supervision of an optometrist or ophthalmologist.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Paraoptometric Assistant Certificate from American Optometric Association or equivalent certification within 24 months of hire.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to function effectively in a professional environment.
Preferred Qualifications

If you have:

  • Three years of previous experience in optometric or ophthalmic practice.
  • Basic knowledge of Kaiser Permanente policies, procedures, and philosophy.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic science and optics, familiarity with optometric and/or ophthalmic procedures related to preliminary testing.
