Position Summary:
Crusoe Security & Compliance is seeking a Lead Security Operations Engineer to play a pivotal role in protecting Crusoe, our clients, and maintaining a strong security posture against evolving threats. This position entails leading the detection strategy, developing, fine-tuning, validating, and correlating to ensure effective detection in a constantly changing threat environment. The role is hands-on, focusing on the management of detection technologies and incident response.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:
- Formulate and implement a comprehensive security operations strategy that aligns with organizational objectives, ensuring robust defense against present and future cyber threats.
- Assess and adopt emerging security technologies and methodologies to continually enhance our security posture and operational effectiveness.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams (Engineering, Product, SRE, IT, Legal) to adapt to a dynamic security landscape.
Detection and Incident Response:
- Design, implement, and refine advanced detection mechanisms to proactively identify potential security threats and vulnerabilities.
- Continuously adjust alerting rules to minimize false positives and improve our signal-to-noise ratio.
- Conduct forensic analysis and lead response efforts during security incidents, including triaging security alerts, implementing relevant mitigation steps, and coordinating with internal stakeholders for swift resolution.
Operational Security:
- Propel the advancement and growth of detection and automation initiatives.
- Oversee security event monitoring, management, response workflows, and associated tasks.
- Enhance security operations by developing measurement capabilities and metrics to track and communicate performance, coverage, and risk.
Automation and Improvement:
- Create comprehensive runbooks, develop automation scripts, and establish SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response) capabilities to minimize manual intervention and enhance response times.
- Develop, maintain, and manage a library of automated playbooks to address emerging threats and tactics used by attackers.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Establish standard operating procedures and other relevant documentation to ensure quality and consistency in service delivery.
- Support ongoing security compliance, audit, and certification initiatives (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2).
Qualifications:
- At least 6 years of experience in cybersecurity, with a focus on detection and response.
- Technical expertise in protecting on-premise computing environments and proficiency in one or more major cloud computing platforms.
- Strong background in incident handling and forensic investigation.
- In-depth knowledge of the cyber threat landscape and the ability to articulate and incorporate understanding of major threat categories, motivations, and adversary intent.
- Automation-first mindset with demonstrated expertise in mentoring and training peers in security engineering skills.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, C, C++) or deep expertise in low-code automation tools or SOAR platforms.
- Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, capable of engaging with partners and stakeholders from diverse perspectives and technical backgrounds.
- Familiarity with modern infrastructure tools, such as Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Cloud Formation, Terraform.
- Experience in building and scaling open-source security observability solutions.
- Proficient in Unix/Linux environments.
- Self-motivated with strong communication and writing abilities.

Compensation Range:
- Compensation is set within the range of $180k - $300k annually. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers. Compensation will be determined based on the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
