We are seeking an experienced Fermentation Leader to spearhead the development of efficient and scalable fermentation processes for our diverse product portfolio. This role involves not only technical expertise but also the ability to build and manage a talented team of scientists and engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction and operational oversight for fermentation initiatives, ensuring effective design and execution of process development across multiple scales.
- Recruit, mentor, and lead a team of fermentation experts, overseeing round-the-clock operations.
- Continuously explore and implement advanced technologies to enhance innovation and reduce costs.
- Develop and apply new scale-down methodologies to facilitate predictive and economical process scale-up.
- Conduct gas mass transfer and kinetic modeling to optimize fermentation processes across various scales.
- Create small-scale fermentation models to enable rapid strain evaluation through high-throughput experimentation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define fermentation process requirements that support efficient downstream processing.
- Analyze experimental data, document findings, and communicate results effectively to a diverse audience.
- Lead technology transfer initiatives both internally and externally.
- Foster collaborative relationships with internal teams and external partners to enhance process development and scaling efforts.
- Ensure all fermentation operations adhere to a safety-first philosophy.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industrial fermentation experience, or a Master’s degree with at least 12 years, or a Bachelor’s degree with 15 years of experience.
- Demonstrated success in developing novel fermentation processes and managing scale transitions.
- Proven leadership experience in guiding teams within a milestone-driven environment.
- Hands-on experience with fermenters, including setup, sampling, and troubleshooting.
- Expertise in mass transfer and kinetic modeling.
- Familiarity with gas fermentation and chemoautotrophy is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in statistical methods and design-of-experiments approaches.
- Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with a focus on execution.
