Position: Senior Engineer - Closure Mechanisms

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proactive attitude and approach their responsibilities with enthusiasm and commitment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop automotive closure hardware and mechanism components, including side door window regulators, handles, hinges, latches, checkers, power actuators, and charge port mechanisms, from concept to production.
  • Ensure excellence in design at both system and component levels, focusing on performance, size, weight, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and external suppliers, utilizing creativity and teamwork to efficiently integrate various systems.
  • Engage with stakeholders across the organization, including Vehicle Safety, Vehicle Dynamics, NVH, Durability, Manufacturing, and Design Studio, to produce top-tier designs.
  • Work in partnership with cross-functional teams, such as CAE, to interpret analysis results and refine designs.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing teams to ensure optimal process sequences and product quality.
  • Collaborate with various departments, including Manufacturing, Design, Product Development, Purchasing, Supplier Quality, and Suppliers, on tool buy-offs and component modifications.
  • Develop testing plans and oversee physical tests to validate design concepts and ensure performance targets are met.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of materials, manufacturing processes, and section properties through benchmarking to assess design competitiveness.
  • Manage virtual engineering and physical validation testing activities for your designs.
  • Communicate effectively with interfacing suppliers.
  • Provide guidance to team members and negotiate balanced solutions.
  • Determine necessary tolerances using GD&T.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive closure hardware and mechanisms, preferably with OEMs or suppliers.
  • Proven track record in successful system-level integration.
  • Experience with Class A surface data.
  • Strong 3D CAD skills, with proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 or similar software.
  • Hands-on experience in prototype and production assembly, with a willingness to assemble components independently.
  • Experience in technology, system, and supplier selection.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively in high-pressure situations.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong problem-solving mindset based on engineering principles.
  • Experience in design release engineering, including change management and project management.
  • Solid understanding of analysis tools such as ANSYS, OptiStruct, MatLab, and ADAMS.
  • Demonstrated excellence in previous roles, showcasing creativity in solving mechanical design challenges.
  • Experience in the full development lifecycle from concept through prototype to full production.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes relevant to closure hardware and mechanisms, including injection molding, die casting, and stamping.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited institution or equivalent experience in automotive closures.
