Job Title: Database Manager III/Senior

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Manager III/Senior to join our team at Ahtna. As a key member of our data management team, you will be responsible for designing, building, implementing, and maintaining various types of relational databases.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop database solutions to manage environmental data derived from various remediation projects and investigations.
  • Lead the organizing, storing, querying, and reporting of data to support multiple environmental projects.
  • Develop client-specific databases, including ERPIMS, FUDSChem, and various state agency databases.
  • Query, code, and export data to facilitate department functions, such as data analysis and reporting.
  • Analyze and determine information needs and elements, data relationships and attributes, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities.
  • Ensure the quality of data standards of project deliverables through QA/QC and peer review processes.
  • Stay up-to-date on hardware/software upgrades, identify and troubleshoot problems, and effectively communicate ideas for the improvement of database quality control.
  • Secure the database by developing policies, procedures, and controls, including data entry, QA/QC, and reporting; work with outside entities.
  • Support staff's production of reports, queries, exports, and coding to facilitate department functions.
  • Provide a positive working environment and build solid relationships with clients and team members.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative subject (engineering, science, computer science, statistics, math, or equivalent).
  • Seven to ten or more years of work experience in environmental data management with strong analytical/database skills or a clear aptitude for data science, specialized training, and/or an advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience.
  • Ability to write code in SQL, Python, or other appropriate languages to map data from one database platform to another accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to mentor and/or start managing staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with one or more relational database systems: Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access, MySQL, Oracle, and EarthSoft's EQuIS.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD ERPIMS and/or FUDSChem.
  • A background in chemistry or experience with laboratory analytical databases (LIMS), electronic data deliverables (EDDs), detection limits, lab qualifiers, etc.
  • Experience working with geospatial data, often implemented through GIS platforms such as ArcGIS or Trimble Business Center.
  • Ability to implement Python onto ArcGIS.
  • Understanding of powerful data analysis tools involving, but not limited to, scripting and extension languages such as SQL, R, Python, VBA, Perl, or MATLAB.
  • Interest and/or experience in GPS data and technology.
  • Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures.

Working Environment:
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time while talking on the telephone, using computers for typing and entering data for up to 3 - 4 hours at a time.
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to lift boxes weighing up to 20 pounds - maintaining files and documentation requires stooping as well as carrying and/or lifting materials.
  • Work requires computer usage with strength, dexterity, coordination, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and video display terminal and other office equipment.
