Position Overview:

Korn Ferry is collaborating with a healthcare organization to identify a qualified candidate for the role of Director of Surgical Services. This pivotal position will report directly to the Vice President of Surgical Services and is integral to the operational success of a comprehensive trauma center.

Key Responsibilities:

The Director of Surgical Services will be responsible for steering the strategic direction of the Surgical and Central Sterile Departments. This role encompasses:

  • Leadership in departmental strategic planning and operational initiatives.
  • Oversight of fiscal management and program development.
  • Ensuring that all multi-disciplinary planning activities align with the organization’s mission and vision.
  • Fostering a culture of quality service and operational efficiency.

Collaboration:

Working in tandem with the Vice President of Surgical Services, the Director will liaise with management across perioperative services to ensure the delivery of superior surgical patient care. Building and maintaining strong relationships with surgeons, anesthesiologists, trainees, and staff is essential.

Team Management:

This role will oversee approximately 160 full-time equivalents (FTEs) and manage a non-staffing budget nearing $45 million.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Extensive leadership experience within a surgical department.
  • Preferred background in a University Affiliated Healthcare facility or Level I Trauma Center.
  • A minimum of 5 years in perioperative or relevant clinical settings.
  • Experience in process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and a results-oriented mindset.

Education and Credentials:

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Master's degree (MSN, MS, or MBA) is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Active or eligibility for a state RN license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Certification in CNOR and ACLS is advantageous.

This position is critical for advancing surgical services and ensuring high standards of patient care.
