Job Summary

The Ohio Department of Public Safety - Ohio State Highway Patrol is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the position of Highway Patrol Lateral Cadet. This role offers a unique opportunity for individuals with prior law enforcement experience to advance their careers and contribute to the safety and security of the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reside at the Ohio State Highway Patrol academy and participate in intensive training and development programs
  • Develop and maintain a high level of physical fitness and meet the requirements of the Cooper Standards
  • Apply knowledge and skills in law enforcement to support the mission of the Ohio State Highway Patrol
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve team goals and objectives
Requirements
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must be between 20 to 39 years of age
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have 2 years or 4160-hour equivalent law enforcement experience in the preceding 2 years with an Ohio agency OR 1 year or 2080-hour equivalent law enforcement experience with an Ohio agency AND the successful completion of an Ohio peace officer basic training program at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy
  • Must have a current OPOTA certificate
  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Experience in law enforcement with a focus on highway patrol

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations
