The Float Pool department at University of Michigan Health-West provides essential support across multiple facilities. Staff members are required to be adaptable, working at various locations according to staffing requirements, which may involve transitioning between sites within the same day. They will gain familiarity with distinct procedures and preferences unique to each facility, healthcare provider, and specialty.

Overview:

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) operates under the supervision of a healthcare professional to provide fundamental care to patients and assist in the operational aspects of the practice.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certification as a Nurse Aide or active enrollment in a health sciences program
  • Basic understanding of Medical Terminology, Anatomy, Physiology, and Patient Confidentiality
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification
  • Experience in a clinical setting
  • Completion of unit-specific core competencies
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducting patient intake, including measuring vital signs and reviewing documentation
  • Collecting specimens and performing Phlebotomy
  • Measuring vital signs and documenting weight
  • Utilizing equipment for patient care
  • Implementing infection control protocols
  • Documenting patient information and care delivered
  • Assisting with procedures and other assigned duties
