Equine Veterinary Assistant Job Description

Thomasville Animal Hospital is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to assist our equine veterinarians in the barn and perform daily barn duties. This role is responsible for the care of hospitalized horses, cleaning stalls and paddocks, and maintaining the barn to our hospital standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist equine veterinarians with procedures, including holding horses, taking x-rays, and jogging horses for lameness exams.
  • Perform daily barn duties, such as cleaning stalls and paddocks, and maintaining the barn environment.
  • Administer treatments, oral medications, blood draws, and injections, under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian.
  • Work effectively with others to ensure the smooth operation of the barn and hospital.
Requirements:
  • Previous equine experience and a strong understanding of horse behavior and care.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
  • Physical stamina to lift up to 50 lbs, jog horses, and perform other physically demanding tasks.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
