We are seeking a Senior Accounting Specialist to become a vital member of our expanding team in Birmingham, AL.

This position will play a crucial role within the accounting department, focusing on the management and preparation of balance sheet reconciliations, income statement classifications, routine financial tasks, and oversight of tax obligations and filings for our facilities.

The individual in this role will develop expertise in accounting practices relevant to SVP and its operations.


This position will also contribute significantly to the monthly financial reporting process and engage in various ad hoc projects as part of a dynamic organization.


Key Responsibilities:

Core Duties:


Acquire a comprehensive understanding of SVP's operations and transaction flow from initiation to reporting in the general ledger.

Prepare and verify accurate journal entries for both the income statement and balance sheet, adhering to established timelines and guidelines.

Conduct account reconciliations for the balance sheet and perform related income statement assessments, including trend and variance analysis.

Ensure precise accounting classification of the income statement with meticulous attention to detail.

Summarize, analyze, and present data in a clear and meaningful format.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards and their implications for SVP.

Facilitate communication between veterinary clinics and management as necessary.

Uphold strict compliance with internal controls over financial reporting.

Manage project requests with an innovative mindset and exceptional attention to detail.


Embrace a culture of continuous improvement aimed at enhancing efficiencies and sophistication within the accounting function and SVP as a whole.

Exhibit strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline

1+ years of experience in accounting, auditing, or a similar professional role preferred but not mandatory

Experience in the retail or healthcare sectors is advantageous

Familiarity with Blackline software is a plus but not essential

Proficient in accounting software applications

Advanced Excel skills and experience handling large datasets

Exceptional presentation, reporting, and communication abilities

Focus on optimizing efficiency and adopting a solution-oriented approach

Capability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and achieve objectives with minimal supervision
