Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Certified Hand Therapist to join our team at the University of Utah Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for evaluating and implementing physical or occupational therapy to patients with hand and upper extremity pathologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and assess patients' abilities and limitations
  • Establish treatment plans and goals based on referrals and evaluations
  • Implement therapy according to established plans, utilizing appropriate procedures, equipment, and techniques
  • Participate in wound management, including wound debridement, dressing changes, exercise, stretching, and splinting
  • Recommend adaptive equipment and arrange for delivery
  • Re-evaluate patients, assess progress, and make recommendations regarding discharge
  • Consult and co-treat with other patient care team members to discuss patient progress and integrate physical treatment with other activities
  • Educate patients and caregivers about evaluation findings, treatment plans, and home programs
  • Evaluate home or work environments and make physical barrier modification or ergonomic recommendations
  • Assist with departmental program development and training physical therapy students
  • Provide in-services for staff, other departments, and the community
  • Document patient care according to established criteria
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement projects
  • Supervise patient care activities of aides, assistants, attendants, students, and volunteers
  • Participate in in-services, medical conferences, staff meetings, continuing education courses, team meetings, and other related activities
Requirements
  • 3 years of clinical or practical experience
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system
  • Current Hand Therapist (CHT) certification through the Hand Therapy Certification Commission
  • Current license to practice as a Physical Therapist in the State of Utah or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the Physical Therapy Compact if switching residency to the State of Utah
  • Current licensure to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the State of Utah
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting that may exert up to 50 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving patients or objects, such as medical equipment, while providing patient care.
