In-House Counsel

Colas USA is seeking an experienced attorney to join its in-house legal team. This role will provide legal advice and assistance to the company's operating infrastructure subsidiaries in Alaska, focusing on heavy highway construction contracts, claims, and contract management.
Main Responsibilities- Negotiating and Drafting Contracts: Negotiate, draft, and review heavy highway construction contracts, public and private, purchase orders, and material sales and supply agreements.
- Claims Management: Manage and negotiate construction claims, general construction contract management, and experience with alternative project delivery methods.
- Commercial Agreements: Draft aggregate extraction/supply agreements, throughput agreements, and various other commercial and transactional agreements.
- Legal Support: Provide accurate and timely legal and business advice and assistance to multiple operating infrastructure companies in Alaska, understanding key business issues that drive legal issues.
- Litigation Management: Oversee litigation and manage outside counsel, providing training and presentations on various construction-related topics to operations.
- Risk Management: Research and evaluate legal risk factors for construction business decisions and operations, applying effective risk management techniques and offering proactive advice on various legal issues.
- Education: Must have a J.D. from an accredited law school and be admitted to practice law in Alaska.
- Experience: Must have between 5 to 12 years of experience as an in-house attorney with an infrastructure/construction company or as an attorney with a well-respected law firm handling legal work in the construction industry.
- Communication: Must maintain the highest degree of ethics, integrity, and transparency, and be able to communicate with all levels of employees easily and effectively.
- Problem-Solving: Must have the ability to explain complex legal and business issues in an understandable manner, possess strong drafting, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Teamwork: Must be a strong team player and collaborator that works to meet organizational goals, with the ability to multitask and work independently and as a member of a team.
