Position Overview:
As a Counseling Specialist in an elementary school setting, you will be instrumental in assisting students who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans. Your role will involve delivering social work services to students, managing casework for 504 plans, and providing general social work assistance as required. Your skills will be crucial in helping students overcome obstacles, develop effective coping mechanisms, and improve their overall mental health.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct social work interventions to students with IEPs, ensuring they receive the appropriate support to achieve their academic objectives.
  • Manage and oversee 504 plans, working collaboratively with educators, guardians, and other professionals to meet the needs of students.
  • Provide general social work support, addressing social, emotional, and behavioral challenges that may affect students' educational experiences.
  • Conduct evaluations and create tailored intervention strategies based on individual student requirements.
  • Maintain precise records and documentation of services rendered, progress made, and outcomes achieved.
  • Collaborate with educational staff, families, and community organizations to ensure a comprehensive approach to student support.
  • Engage in IEP meetings and contribute insights regarding students' social-emotional growth.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure or certification in social work (LCSW preferred).
  • Experience in a school environment, particularly with elementary-aged children.
  • Familiarity with special education protocols, IEPs, and 504 plans.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
