Position Overview

The Respiratory Therapist provides essential respiratory care and cardiac diagnostic services to patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly, who are suffering from respiratory ailments and cardiopulmonary conditions. The therapist will ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care following established protocols and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administers care to patients in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Conducts thorough cardiopulmonary assessments, including physical examinations, chart reviews, and vital sign monitoring using basic equipment.
  • Sets up and operates respiratory equipment, administering prescribed medications and treatments as required.
  • Monitors treatment efficacy and patient progress, documenting all care provided in the medical records accurately.
  • Utilizes various cardiac and EEG diagnostic equipment in compliance with established procedures.
  • Educates patients and their families on respiratory care needs, providing necessary support and guidance.
  • Handles phone inquiries and greets patients and visitors with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Assists in discharge planning and ensures all necessary preparations are made.
  • Supports clerical functions within the department, including appointment scheduling and patient instructions.
  • Participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains and prepares respiratory care equipment through regular cleaning and upkeep.
  • Engages in ongoing education and training, attending mandatory classes, seminars, and staff meetings.
  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service and compassion towards patients, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Communicates effectively with management and team members regarding patient care progress and issues.
  • Collaborates positively with others and accepts additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications

Required
  • Valid California Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
  • Certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Previous experience in respiratory care is preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of office and patient care equipment.
  • Familiarity with various respiratory devices and monitoring equipment.
  • Computer skills, including knowledge of electronic medical records.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to take initiative and adapt to changing priorities.
Physical Requirements

Staff must be able to sit, stand, walk, and communicate effectively. The role requires frequent use of hands for computer work, report writing, and equipment handling. Good vision is necessary for reading and entering data accurately.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and move for a significant portion of the workday.
  • Employ proper body mechanics when handling equipment.
Compliance Requirements

Adheres to the Compliance Handbook, including the Code of Ethics and all applicable regulations and guidelines. Responsibilities include reporting any suspected violations of statutes or regulations related to healthcare programs.

Compensation

Starting pay is $64.62 per hour, with the final salary determined by various factors including experience and qualifications.
