Job Summary

The Scheduling Nurse-LPN is a critical role at Bryan Health, responsible for facilitating access to medical services. This position requires a skilled nurse to secure medical necessity, patient demographic, and financial information from physicians, healthcare facilities, and patients. The successful candidate will analyze clinical data, intervene to prevent adverse outcomes, and contribute to an efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Facilitate Access to Medical Services: Secure medical necessity, patient demographic, and financial information from physicians, healthcare facilities, and patients.
  2. Analyze Clinical Data: Collect and analyze pertinent clinical data related to scheduled procedures, intervening to prevent problems that could result in adverse patient outcomes or delayed/cancelled procedures.
  3. Contribute to Efficient Work Environment: Engage in professional communication and documentation, preceptoring, and/or resourcing of others to ensure a smooth and effective workflow.
  4. Educate Patients and Families: Provide clear instructions and education to patients and families regarding preparation and understanding of procedures.
  5. Collaborate with Physician Office Staff: Work closely with physician office staff to educate patients and families, clearly communicate instructions, and provide recommendations and education commensurate with scope of practice.
  6. Review and Evaluate Outpatient Orders: Use clinical judgment and critical thinking to review and evaluate outpatient orders received from physicians and/or physician staff, following up on appropriateness and completeness of orders as they relate to procedures ordered.
  7. Document and Communicate Effectively: Document verbal physician orders, screen and determine appropriateness of level of care and admission status, and notify appropriate departments based on assessment of patient needs.
  8. Perform Other Related Projects and Duties: Serve as a liaison in building and maintaining professional relationships between physicians, physician office staff, and other healthcare personnel, and perform other related projects and duties as assigned.
Requirements
  1. Knowledge of Nursing Theory and Practice: Possess knowledge of nursing theory, anatomy, and physiology, procedural indications, and medical/nursing terminology.
  2. Computer and Software Skills: Demonstrate proficiency in computer hardware, software applications, including the computer-based scheduling system, telephonic communications, and software applications relevant to work functions.
  3. Hospital Operations and Regulations: Have knowledge of hospital operations, including automated health information systems, and federal regulations, including COBRA, corporate compliance, and third-party payer requirements.
  4. Professional Judgment and Communication: Exercise professional judgment, courtesy, and tact in daily interactions with physicians, physician staff, and healthcare facilities.
  5. Ability to Work in a Fast-Paced Environment: Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize work based on analysis of information from physicians, physician staff, healthcare facilities, patients, or family members, and establish therapeutic communication with patients and patient representatives.
  6. Education and Experience: Possess a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure from the State of Nebraska or an approved compact state of residence, and a minimum of three (3) years of medical/surgical experience, including extensive experience in hospital/health operations and general background in all areas of nursing practice.
