The City of Hayward is seeking a highly skilled Mobile Mental Health Clinician to join our team. As a key member of our Hayward Evaluation and Response Teams (HEART) Program, you will provide field-based professional behavioral health counseling, psychoeducation, outreach, and engagement services to individuals experiencing mental illness, substance use disorders, and homelessness.

Under general direction, you will work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, community resources, and organizations to provide crisis intervention, safety assessments, and other mental health services. Your expertise will be essential in reducing the need for police officers to intervene in calls for service involving individuals with mental health issues and promoting access to medical, mental health, and other support services.

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate professional with a Master's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field, and a valid professional mental health therapy license issued by the State of California. If you have experience working with individuals and families experiencing homelessness, mental illness, and substance abuse challenges, we encourage you to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct casework, individual and group therapy, and case management services
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, community resources, and organizations to provide crisis intervention and mental health services
  • Develop and implement prevention and intervention program approaches to reduce reliance on emergency services
  • Provide community education on current procedures and practices related to mental health and intervention strategies
  • Represent the City on committees, outside organizations, and other City departments as needed

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field
  • Valid professional mental health therapy license issued by the State of California
  • Two years' experience working in the social work or counseling field with a strong emphasis on social services, resources, and referrals
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, community resources, and organizations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
