Job Summary

The City of Hayward, CA is seeking a highly skilled Mobile Mental Health Clinician to join our team. As a key member of our Hayward Evaluation and Response Teams (HEART) Program, you will provide field-based professional behavioral health counseling, psychoeducation, outreach, and engagement services to improve public safety responses to individuals experiencing mental illness, substance use disorders, and homelessness.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide direct casework, individual and group therapy, and secure and evaluate medical or psychosocial data.
  • Perform field work to proactively serve the unhoused population, persons with mental illness, and others in crisis.
  • Interpret and explain pertinent service program activities and department policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, community resources, and organizations.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with contractors and community organizations.
  • Compile and prepare reports and documentation on clinical activities.
  • Identify emerging trends related to crimes and issues and develop prevention and intervention program approaches.
Requirements
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Clinical Social Work, or a closely related field.
  • Valid professional mental health therapy license issued by the State of California.
  • Two years' experience working in the social work or counseling field with a strong emphasis on social services, resources, and referrals using a collaborative and community framework.
  • Ability to work primarily in the field and have situational awareness to respond alongside emergency response teams.
