Job Summary

The Assistant General Counsel will provide legal support for the North American renewable energy business team in connection with the development and construction of renewable energy projects in the U.S. and Canada. This role will focus on real estate topics, including the preparation and negotiation of real estate documents, review of title documents, and resolution of title issues. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of renewable energy law and experience working with title companies and surveyors.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on real estate matters related to renewable energy projects
• Review and negotiate real estate documents, including leases and title insurance policies
• Work with the business team to identify and mitigate risks associated with real estate and permitting issues
• Collaborate with external counsel to identify permits needed for projects and assist the development team with procuring all necessary permits
• Ensure projects are ready for tax equity investor involvement and work with the Structured Finance team to answer diligence questions and provide inputs to transaction documents and disclosure schedules

Requirements

• J.D. (Juris Doctor) degree from a U.S. university
• Admission to a state bar in the United States, with preference for membership in either the Illinois bar or Texas bar (either currently or by way of reciprocity)
• Minimum 5 years experience as a real estate lawyer in the renewable space
• Strong knowledge of renewable energy law and experience working with title companies and surveyors
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage client relationships and work collaboratively with the business team

RWE Renewables America, LLC offers a competitive salary range of $156,000 - $234,000, depending on location and experience. Eligible employees also participate in short-term incentives, in addition to salary.
