About the Courts Commission

The Illinois Courts Commission is a state agency responsible for adjudicating disciplinary complaints filed against judges. The Commission has recently hired its first Executive Director and General Counsel, creating a unique opportunity for a highly organized individual to grow with the agency.

Job Description/Responsibilities

The Assistant General Counsel and Administrator (AGCA) will serve as the Executive Director's deputy in managing all aspects of the Commission, including legal, financial, and operational matters. The AGCA's duties may evolve with the needs of the agency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Executive Director in conducting research on judicial disciplinary issues and writing memoranda for the Commissioners.
  • Prepare for pre-hearing conferences and hearings before the Commission, and communicate with parties or attorneys of record when necessary.
  • Attend pre-hearing conferences and hearings, and help prepare draft orders and decisions for the Commission.
  • Act as the Commission's deputy clerk, filing-stamping documents and maintaining the Commission's docket and records.
  • Assist the Executive Director in conducting seminars and CLEs regarding judicial discipline issues.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Process vouchers for the Illinois Comptroller's Office, including correspondence, voucher preparation, and financial reporting.
  • Monitor the Commission's spending and assist the Executive Director in annual budget preparations and reviews.
  • Process payroll, including tracking employee time off and leave benefits.
  • Assist the Executive Director in administrative tasks, such as updating the Commission's website, ordering office supplies, and communicating with the building staff.
Requirements
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in Illinois and an attorney in good standing.
  • Experience with lawyer or judicial disciplinary/ethical issues is preferred but not required.
  • Accounting experience is preferred but not required.
